Berlin Fashion Week: The winners have been announced!

As part of the STUDIO2RETAIL Project at BFW creative, innovative and sustainable concepts have been awarded through the Fashion Council Germany. The prize money of 82. 000, - EUR was shared by the numerous winners.

The Fashion Council Germany, together with the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Operations, has launched the STUDIO2RETAIL initiative, which will bring Berlin Fashion Week closer to the end consumer. Berlin brands with stores, as well as studios and special retail companies will be united under the umbrella of the STUDIO2RETAIL project and activated for Berlin Fashion Week. In addition to communication measures, brand presentations and a virtual as well as physical shopping guide, prize money totaling EUR 82,000 was made available by the Berlin Senate for Economic Affairs, Energy and Operations as part of the initiative to reward innovative and sustainably oriented concepts. From August 3 to 10, all Berlin fashion labels, designers, concept stores, retailers and fashion organizers were allowed to submit format proposals. From the numerous applications and network registrations, the winners were selected by a jury of industry experts on August 12, 2021.

The highest prize money was won by William Fan with 16.000,- EUR. Four times 10.000,- EUR went to MALAIKARAISS, #DAMUR, PLATTE.Berlin and to GREEN FASHION FAIR Berlin, 6.000,- EUR won Manakaa Project and uncommon matters and the 7 prize money worth 2.000,- EUR went to Become A-Ware, Good Garment Collective, slow Friday - fair fashion store, Konk, Lebenskleidung, esther perbandt and Aurelia Paumelle. "I congratulate the winners* warmly on the awards and am looking forward to the many decentralized concepts for Berlin Fashion Week, which contribute to the activation of the retail sector and make fashion an experience for all." Ramona Pop, Senator for Economy, Energy and Operations.

The winners were selected on the basis of the qualitatively most outstanding event concepts on the themes of innovation and sustainability and the concepts that bring fashion themes closer to a wider audience for Berlin Fashion Week. Sustainability was included as a central theme in all submitted proposals and the multitude of progressive ideas that focused on the city, the customers and fashion as a valuable cultural asset did not make the decision easy. 

"It was not easy for the jury to choose the winners*. Among the applications were incredibly good and convincing concepts to make Berlin fashion both visible, to consume fashion more consciously and to give garments a new value. We hope that Berliners will visit the decentralized Studio2Retail locations and engage in dialogue with the brands," said Scott Lipinski, Managing Director of the Fashion Council Germany.

The jury consisted of the following experts: Petra Pfaller (Creative Director BUNTE), Melanie Bauer (Owner of MELAGENCE), Nobieh Talaei (Founder of the label Nobi Talai), Mira von der Osten (Board of Directors of the Association of Berlin Fashion Designers and Founder of the label Cruba), Kristina Hellhake (Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Business; Fashion and Design Industry Division), Herbert Hofmann (Creative Director and Head of Buying at Highsnobiety) and Scott Lipinski (CEO of the Fashion Council Germany),

All winners and numerous other partners are listed on the STUDIO2RETAIL website (https://www.studio2retail.berlin/), with information on the STUDIO2RETAIL events and a map with all brands, studios, ateliers and retailers that have joined the network.

Also listed there is the FCG Pop Up Shop, which the FCG created in partnership with ALHAMBRA BERLIN for its members and offers designers the opportunity to present their label during Berlin Fashion Week. At the famous Kurfürstendamm more than 25 German designers:in will show their collections, which can be ordered directly home from there.
