GmbH

ABOUT THE SHOW

With their GmbH collection "Resistance Through Rituals," Benjamin Alexander Huseby and Serhat Isik made their Berlin Contemporary debut on the terrace of Tempodrom as part of the Intervention Showcase by Reference Studio. Friends and models of the two designers showcased looks intended to symbolize strength and combat readiness. Tailored boxing-style jackets, patchwork tops, ultra-short shorts, asymmetrical dresses, and boots with extra wide shafts dominated the runway.

"Resistance Through Rituals" questions the resurgence of fascism and its societal impacts. Through its tailored and boxing-inspired designs, GmbH embodies the spirit of resistance and celebrates the heroes and heroines who dedicate their lives to the cause.

A highlight of the show was the collaboration with Axel Arigato, GmbH’s exclusive footwear partner. Together, they introduced a new sneaker collection in silver metallic, featuring elements of chainmail and armored metal. This reinterpretation of armor reflects GmbH’s ongoing exploration of resistance in their designs.

ABOUT THE LABEL

Together ISIK and HUSEBY founded the brand GmbH in 2016 in Berlin, as a project to use the medium of fashion to respond to current events in the world. Drawing on personal experiences as children of immigrants in Europe, GmbH quickly gained a cult following for its brutalist silhouettes, cut to both enhance and protect the body, unapologetically intertwined with their heritage and multicultural community. At the core of GmbH is storytelling using the craft of garment making.

ISIK and HUSEBY are listed in the BoF500 and were in its first year nominated to the LVMH prize as well as being finalists for the ANDAM and WOOLMARK awards. They won critical acclaim from Vogue, BoF, New York Times, WWD and Dazed.

ISIK and HUSEBY have made custom clothes for artists Dua Lipa, Arca and Beyonce, as well as dressing Rihanna, Solange, Kelela, Lil Nas X, Violet Chachki, Kylie Jenner, Jorja Smith, Dev Hynes, Hunter Schaefer, Fatima Al Quadiri, Honey Dijon, Kelsey Lu and many more.

They have always been environmentally and socially responsible since the start. Their first collections were made entirely from materials that would otherwise go to waste.

In 2021 ISIK and HUSEBY were named as the creative directors of TRUSSARDI.

ISIK was born in the industrial heartland of West Germany. He studied his MA in fashion at Berlin Weissensee School of Art and worked as a designer at BLESS, as well as freelancing and consulting for designers and artists throughout his career.

HUSEBY grew up in the countryside in Norway. He studied fine art BA at Chelsea College of Art and MA at The Royal Art Academy in Oslo. He worked as a photographer shooting for Dazed, i-D, Vogue and The Gentlewoman, and an artist exhibiting at The ICA , KW, The Stedelijk Museum.
