Michael Sontag

ABOUT THE BRAND
The designer Michael Sontag sees his work as an entity. Therefore he prefers not to define his fashion as a collection, but rather as his general “work”. Sontag sees his production process as fluent. The transitions from season to season build upon each other. His presentations are snap-shots without a static character, instead of being reckoned as an attempt respectively an offer. With this approach the designer wants to blur the common fashion borders and create a generality detached from fashion parameters such as seasons, trends and consumer ages. This approach is evident in the clarity of his designs. Designs which have never been drawn came to life on mannequins through Sontag’s drapery work.
ABOUT THE COLLECTION
The collection by Michael Sontag murmurs through shape, material, and the quiet insistence of form, unfolding as a living narrative within the space, where garments breathe with the movement of bodies and light. Each piece lingers, revealing itself in fragments, in echoes of its own making, a dialogue between surface and shadow, between weight and air.
Shaped through intuitive and abstract gestures, the silhouettes drift and settle—softly androgynous, lightly tethered to the body, yet unbound. Knits feathered with tactility float with color and play, while contrasting materials punctuate with deliberate tension. Leather threads through the volume not as claim, but as counterpoint, weighing against the float, letting fragility and structure coexist. The collection is at once mischievous and meticulous, playful and deliberate, patterned yet wandering.
Time inhabits each stitch, each fall of fabric, becoming visible in the pause of construction and in the subtle insistence of materiality. Presence is drawn not from spectacle but from care, attention, and the patience of making. In the work, balance is held—softness against strength, intuition against structure, movement against stillness—without resolution, only coexistence, inviting reflection, sensation, and quiet communion with what is seen and what is whispered.
