As part of the POSITIONS Berlin art fair from 12 to 15 September, 20 Berlin fashion designers attracted around 30,000 visitors to present their creative, fashionable designs in harmony with artistic installations.

Bold collections, experiential fashion and innovative materials were presented to art collectors and fashion experts, and were available for purchase in the FASHION PASSION SHOP.

Designer Claudia Skoda, who presented her collection as part of Reference Studio at Berlin Fashion Week in July 2024, once again showed visitors her fusion of traditional knitting craftsmanship with the modern zeitgeist. The resulting new designs and garments are characterised by a creative elegance with a touch of the provocative.

MAXIMILIAN GEDRA also presented his recurring opulent designs, which combine clarity and modernity. With clean shapes and sculptural features, his collection expresses all the characteristics of the Berlin creative scene: open, integrative, unusual.

Another familiar name among the exhibitors was Karen Jessen. The artist and designer has been part of the curated exhibition at Der Berliner Salon for Berlin Fashion Week several times, including in July 2024. Her love of experimenting with recycled materials is reflected in her designs. Upcycling and the interplay of materials and shapes are her trademarks.

Alongside these established BFW brands, young, up-and-coming labels such as Nadine-Aurin, Selva and SBLMTN Studio also showcased their talents. With a focus on themes such as digital fashion, sustainability and consumer awareness, they address the issues and challenges of today.

Fashion and street style photographer Caroline Kynast rounded off the FASHION POSITIONS programme with her exclusive photo exhibition. She presented snapshots of past Fashion Weeks. Fleeting moments, often captured in motion. Kynast's exhibition creates a rare authentic moment in the fashion scene and focuses on current trends. It was not least for this reason that it was decided to integrate one of her motifs as a key visual for the past BFW.

This topicality and artistic nature is something that unites all the designer labels, as is the creation of more sustainable, long-lasting materials and looks - sometimes more, sometimes less provocative, but always one thing: forward-thinking.

What could have been a more appropriate location than Berlin's Tempelhof Airport, whose buildings and grounds are a mix of nostalgia and visions of the future. There is plenty of space in the former hangars to give innovative artistic fashion (re)creations the freedom they need to develop.

FASHION POSITIONS once again demonstrated how Berlin functions as an interface between fashion and art. The presentation of 20 innovative Berlin labels, including Claudia Skoda and Esther Perbandt, and the outstanding photography of Caroline Kynast made it possible to experience fashion as a cultural narrative. This successful fusion of fashion and art promotes creative exchange and enriches both disciplines,' concludes organiser Kristian Jarmuschek.
