Der Berliner Salon: final exhibition concept and designers
During Berlin Fashion Week, DER BERLINER SALON will take place from September 5-7th at Kulturforum in Berlin. Next to the group exhibition of local and national designers and manufactures, there will be an alumni exhibition for the first time as well as various exhibition formats, such as a presentation by Ukrainian Designer Jean Gritsfeldt, the presentation of outfits resulting from the FASHION X CRAFT sponsorship program and the exhibition of shoe prototypes for the RISING VOICES AWARD, initiated by the lifestyle brand UGG®
With the extended exhibition concept, DER BERLINER SALON builds on its engagement regarding brands with a focus on sustainability in Germany. The goal is to provide a long-term platform for the refinement and quality of German fashion and its sensibility for sustainable methods and materials. Christiane Arp, Chairwoman of Fashion Council Germany, curates DER BERLINER SALON, who jointly initiated the event with Marcus Kurz, Managing Director Nowadays. The Berlin Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises supports the format.
Among the 30 designers and manufacturers, represented in the group exhibition with two designs each are: Alexandra Biron von Curland, Atelier Balagans, Avenir, Detlev Diehm, Fade Out Label, Fassbender, Fiona Bennett, Gisa Golpira, Horror Vacui, Jonathan Aurel Richter, Julia Leifert, Khulan Klecker, Konrad, LML Studio, Mykita, Neubau Eyewear, Odeeh, Olivia Ballard, Offt, PB0110, René Storck, Rianna + Nina, Richert Beil, Rita in Palma, SF1OG, Société Angelique, Stiebich & Rieth, Studio 163, Susumu Ai, The Twins.
Additionally, and for the first time, an alumni installation will be taking place. It consists of 24 designers and manufactures with two designs each who have participated in past seasons of DER BERLINER SALON. These include: Aleksandra Viktor, Allude, Anna Auras, Antonia Zander, Brachmann, Dawid Tomaszewski, Gabriele Frantzen, Horizn Studios, I‘VR Isabel Vollrath, Karen Jessen, Marjana von Berlepsch, Maximova, Michael Sontag, Peter O. Mahler, Sminfinity, Talbot Runhof, Tsatsas, Uncommon Matters, Unützer, Vee Collective, Vickermann & Stoya, Vladimir Karaleev, William Fan, Working Title.
This season the designers’ and manufacturers‘ creations are staged on the iconic busts of Siegel and Stockman. Since the inception of the company in 1867 in Paris, Siegel and Stockman sets itself apart through the highest level of craftsmanship and quality. Their busts are used in Haute Couture to this date.
Moreover, the final pieces of the sponsorship program FASHION X CRAFT, will be presented as part of DER BERLINER SALON. The initiative jointly started by the Fashion Council Germany, The Prince ́s Foundation, and Swarovski Foundation aims to demonstrate the importance of young designers working on innovative manufacturing techniques for a more sustainable approach to fashion. Eight German-speaking designers completed the program over the past months, during which they also took part in a three-week residence at the educational institution of The Prince’s Foundation in Highgrove, Gloucestershire, UK – a part of the estate of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
For the first time, DER BERLINER SALON is also presenting an international guest designer: Jean Gritsfeldt from Ukraine. In March, his collection has already been presented as part the MBFW.
DER BERLINER SALON completes its program with the exhibition of the final contestants of the RISING VOICES AWARD. The 20.000 Euro prize is awarded by the Fashion Council Germany and lifestyle brand UGG®. Ten designers have created a sustainable-innovative shoe prototype in the final round. The winner will be announced on the evening of September 5th during the „Berlin Fashion Week Opening & FIRESIDECHAT“ of Fashion Council Germany.
DER BERLINER SALON opens its doors for invited guests on September 5th between 2-5 pm and for the public on September 6-7th between 10-6 pm at Kulturforum (Matthäikirchplatz, 10785 Berlin).
